Areanet details rangers and Pets for Guild Wars 2

ArenaNet has detailed the ranger and his loyal animal companion over on the official Guild Wars 2 site.

This “jack-of-all-trades” can lay traps, summon nature spirits, or barrage his foes from a distance. Awesome.

Weapons used by the ranger include a main and off hand weapon such as a sword, axe, or dagger, along with two-handed weapons like a longbow, shortbow, or greatsword.

Rangers can also charm pets, and have up to three pets at his beck and call, but only one pet can be active at any given time.

There are 12 different types of pets, including spiders, lizards, or sharks, along with more furry ones – with all including a subtypes that can influence the pets’ abilities.

Pets also have customization options, and can evolve up to 20 evolution levels with each one gaining automatic bonuses at different evolution levels and eventually unlocking up to four ability slots.

A beta can be excpected sometime this year.

It sounds like a neat character, and you can get more info on it through here.

Guild Wars 2 is scheduled for a 2011 release , exclusively for the PC.
